Architecture in Hamburg

ELINA MIHAJLOVA

Elina Mihajlova, Dipl. Ing. Architect, is a first-class expert in our architecture and interior design studio, Bornhold Architects, in Hamburg. Her international experience combined with her passion for modern architecture and keen eye for detail in every aspect of interior design makes Elina a crucial addition to our team.

Elina's approach to work is a process that's both methodical and creative. First, she takes into account the conditions of the spaces – the architecture, history, geographical location, and light conditions – all of which significantly influence the planning and design. In the next step toward floor plan design, she focuses on her clients' lifestyle structures. She examines how they live and work, considering their daily paths. "Sometimes I need to intervene," she says. "Because as an architect, you're also a bit of a psychologist..."

This leads her to create living space concepts with floor plans that truly have a "heart" and reflect the energy of the occupants. She captures this initially in beautifully wild sketches and then gradually delves into the technical details using ArchiCAD, which ultimately shape both aesthetics and thoughtful functionality.

To illustrate her clients' style, she assembles mood boards with material samples and colors, trying to uncover what type they are. Elina distinguishes, for instance, between the marble type and the hardwood type (and takes great delight when she guesses correctly ;-). This way, she slowly understands her clients' desires and how far she can push boundaries, because a perfectly designed apartment should pleasantly surprise its residents. In Elina's work, expertise in perfect architecture and interior design meets empathy.

Her sensitivity to local stylistic influences is also intriguing. For instance, for the current interior construction of a villa in Sylt, she acknowledges the island's stylistic impact and then finds a contemporary interpretation.

From new builds to renovating existing structures, optimizing layouts, on-site construction management, and coordinating trades – Elina covers the entire range of services. One of her strengths lies in kitchen planning, designing fitted furniture, libraries, dressing rooms, fireplace walls – all individually crafted and manufactured in the Bornhold Manufactory, tailored to fit your spaces.

Elina's career has taken her from Moscow to Berlin and finally to Hamburg. After her architecture studies, she worked as an architect at Tchoban Voss Architects before joining Bornhold's planning department. Her passion for architecture and interior design, her holistic and detail-oriented approach, and her unwavering commitment to making clients happy make her a valuable addition to the Bornhold Architects team.
